This program reaches out to the community in several ways. EOROC has developed a partnership with Chicago Public and Private Schools. Through our Peace curriculum we teach, counsel and mentor students at risk, and conduct parent and teacher workshops.
In 1995, the nineteen year old daughter of EOROC founder Bessie Hitchcock was murdered and the focus of the organization changed. As a result of this tragedy, the Board of Directors and a group of concerned citizens joined forces to examine the issues and problems that our youth are facing today. Their research and commitment to helping our children initiated the birth of Color Me Peace, a structured, violence prevention educational component of EOROC which reaches out to all children and youth. This program teaches children how to diffuse anger, build self-esteem, use organizational skills and set and achieve goals.
